Christmas and an Over the Top Wearable

Over the Top Wearable Art with a Christmas Theme. In the 1990's a Christmas Challenge motivated me to design a Bog Coat Shrug using Christmas Themed Fabrics, Patchwork, Beads, Baubles, Trinkets and Decorative Stitching. Front and Back View of the Bog Coat Shrug. Underneath is a Red Knit Cocoon Coat. The fun in this making was using a Grandma's Gingerbread Cookie Recipe Fabric. It is the pocket on the lower right front (as you look at the image above). What makes this very sweet, if you will pardon the pun, is that I actually have used the recipe to make Christmas Cookie Gifts for my neighbors. Today is Christmas 25 December 2018 and I am in Baja California, Mexico. It is raining off and on, Christmas Carols are playing, it is warm in my casa, I have 5 Christmas trees in various sizes, and Christmas is my favorite time of year. Celebrate!

Me-Made-May Challenge

What a sweet day! Took this before I headed out to my terrace to sip wine with friends. I'm wearing my studio shirt made with colorful Mexican fabric - can you see the patch on the shoulder and the elbow? I added those because the fabric frays desperately, even though I serged the raw edges and used small stitches for the seams. The collar is a black knit. Pattern is an old Issey Miyaki Vogue #1476 that I modified. Pants are white rayon with large patch pockets and elastic waist. The pattern is one I've used over and over, adapted it, and it still performs. It was a pattern I bought from a Quilt Conference in the 1990's and at that time it was called Ginger Pants. I've looked online to see if I could find the original but to no avail. Pink straw hat and orange dangly earrings are from a local vendor in Baja - Maria. She is a darling woman who sells jewelry, blankets, Mexican jackets, handbags and what not. S...

Black and White with Mustard

Me Made May 2018. The black and white striped top is my pattern and is a rayon cotton fabric. Very soft and drapery, which I love for the comfort but it was not an easy fabric to sew. The black leggings are a knit blend of linen, cotton and a wee bit of spandex, and a pattern I've used over and over, adapting here and there. It was from Simplicity's Elements triple. The mustard color raincoat is Eileen Fisher and a nice remembrance of Santa Fe, where I bought it. Earrings are vintage costume jewelry from my Aunt Phoebe. Shoes are Nicole. Scarf and plastic ring are from purchases made years ago and I have no idea of the brand name. Gold band from Barons Jewelers.
